Earl Weaver led the Orioles to six AL East titles, four pennants, and one World Series victory in his 17 seasons. At 5’ 7” and 160 pounds, he was a fiery Napoleonic leader, tossed from nearly 100 big league games. But he was also an innovator, as demonstrated in his pioneering the radar gun and...his uniform customization. As a liberal smoker, who’s managerial style relied heavily on player-performance charts, Weaver directed that a pouch be sewn into his jersey front for secure storage of his “top secret tendency stats” and, conveniently, to conceal his cigarettes.
This beautifully preserved button-down knit incorporates that the storied pouch, visible from the exterior via three mini-stitch lines adjacent to the “L” and “S” in the scripted "Orioles" identifier. All of the features of a mid ‘70s Wilson-made Orioles road knit are present, including the collar main label (size 40), soft cotton inner collar and button path lining, three-color sleeve ends, orange/black collar trim, “undersized” front and back, two-color block numerals, year/set tail designator ("75 1") and beautifully arched, 2 5/8”, uniquely fonted NOB.
The ‘Lil General signed the jersey beautifully under the front number, and the wear is season-long solid.
