HOF Bill Sharman 1950 "Most Valuable Player" Trophy & Photo of Presentation.
Actual USC "Most Valuable Player" trophy presented to senior Bill Sharman, one of the "50 Greatest Players in NBA History" and dual Basketball Hall of Fame inductee as player and coach and... the greatest shooter of his era. Bill Sharman was the first NBA guard to push his field-goal percentage above .400 for a season (.436 in 1952-53), and he still ranks among the top free-throw shooters of all time with an .883 lifetime percentage. In an 11-year NBA career played mostly with the Boston Celtics, Sharman was voted to the All-NBA First or Second Team seven times, and he played in eight NBA All-Star Games. He teamed with Bob Cousy to form one of the most formidable backcourts in league history, helping the Celtics to four championships during his tenure. But it all started at the University of Southern California where he rained a never-ending downpour of deadly jumpers on opponents to lead the nation and be twice named Pacific Coast Conference MVP as well as 1950's receipient of USC's "Sam Barry Award", given to the Most Valuable Player, and named for fellow Hall of Famer Barry, USC's all-time winningest coach (260). This is that award and the culmination of Sharman's incredible college career. Included is a photo of Bill receiving the honor with presenter Coach Barry, Sharman's dear friend and mentor. Award stands over 10 inches high on a simple but elegant wood base with brass plaque inscribed, "Sam Barry Award to Bill Sharman, Most Valuable Player of 1950." Unique and serious momento from the life and career of one of basketball's greatest players.
