1998 New York Yankees World Championship Full-Size Salesman's Sample Trophy.

The 1998 New York Yankees are considered one of the greatest teams in baseball history. After winning an astounding 114 games in the regular season, the '98 edition of the Bronx Bombers tore up the post-season (11-2), and staged a four-game sweep of the San Diego Padres in the Fall Classic. The season marked the team's second championship in three years and the first of three consecutive championships to come. Offered is a 1998 World Championship trophy that truly reflects the magnificence of the team which earned it. This stunning handcrafted piece is 25 inches tall and 13 inches in diameter. Originally issued as a salesman's sample by maker Balfour, it's nearly twice the size of the team-issued players trophies, and as such, suggests being identical to the actual trophy bestowed upon the Yankees franchise. Thirty flag poles and team pennants of increasing height adorn its top, each engraved with the name of MLB's 30 franchises. Its center features a silver baseball, a 9-1/2" diameter ring and shimmering crown, plus a pair of Yankees and Padres World Series press pins affixed in front of the baseball; the only decorative component not brass-plated. A brushed brass band wraps around the onyx-like black base and states, "World Series Champions - New York Yankees - 1998." It's a truly commanding showpiece shimmering in exquisite NrMT/MT condition, as well as an important and immensely desirable offering from the modern Yankees' finest year, and dare we say, one of the most impressive seasons in the storied franchise's history! Please note: Due to the size and weight of this lot, shipping may be substantial.
