Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball

The pillars of Yankee might are expressed - exclusively - on this baseball. The medium is to National League specifications, but it was actually intended for use in the Texas League. It bears the stamp of J. Doak Roberts, whose second term as president of that circuit spanned the years 1920-'29. The sweet spot holds the distinguished autograph of Babe Ruth then, appearing on the south panel, is that of Lou Gehrig. We're tempted to speculate that this ball was signed during one of those storied barnstorming tours (the 'Bustin' Babes' and the Larrupin' Lous'). That Babe inked this one without the benefit of quotation marks suggests that the signing took place in the very late '20's - near the end of that Texas League President's term. Both of these autographs are abundantly rich against the surface of the unused ball. The Ruth signature is about "8" in quality while that of Gehrig is "7" - qualified by a very light (but acceptable) inconsistancy in his penned first name. Nonetheless, both are clean, dependably responsible, and most delightfully, the two autographs are comfortably visible from a single vantage point.
