Generation Xers know Jerry Sloan as a win-producing machine who was at the helm of the Stockton/Malone Jazz teams of the '90s. Baby Boomers also know him as one of the great defensive guards in NBA annals. His stats are modest (14 points per game) and his steals went unrecorded for most of his eleven seasons, but he did average seven rebounds and successfully defended against the greatest scoring guards in the league. In short, he was a winner, he was rough, he was immensely popular, and he's been a major force in the NBA from the mid-60s to the present. This Sloan early-career Bulls jersey, dating to the period 1966-68, is a classic. The body is cheesecloth, while the three-color/seven-stripe, 2 1/2" side panels are made of stretch dureen (blinding in their own right, and anticipating modern Bulls styling). The team name is oversized, two-color, serif-block, tackly twill with delicious arching and excessive backdrop color. The numerals are two-color drop shadow and magnificent in their font style. In the inner tail we find a Rawlings 1960s [size] "44" label, a well-worn blank customization swatch, and a washing instructions label, which is partially detached. Visually stunning, it represents a very early-career Jerry Sloan from the heralded frachise's humble beginnings. The condition is Excellent, but well-worn, making for an eminent display of the Bulls' first great player.
