1995 Andre Agassi Match-Worn Shirt (Worn vs. Michael Chang at MGM) Unwashed
Andre Agassi is recognized worldwide for his tennis ability. But he reached iconic status because he was on TV hawking cameras, Nike apparel and everything else in the early '90s. "Image is everything" was the mantra of the long-haired Las Vegas native. But don't be mistaken, he could play with the best of them.
On March 4, 1995 Agassi returned home for a match with rival Michael Chang at the MGM in an exhibition. After the match he gave this pullover to young Steven Sampson. The youngster never washed the Nike polo shirt and it remains in an unwashed state. There are numerous photos on Getty Images which show Agassi wearing this exact style of outfit (51971520, 1789909, 81453537). Burgundy stripes are visible while the collar and sleeve ends have a checkered white/burgundy motif. Sewn in the collar is a Nike tag and size "L" size tag. There is sweat staining on the tag. A few of the stripes near the top have saturation from sweat. A notorized letter from the owner's father will accompany. A scan of Agassi with the youngster is available on-line. It is from the same event as the shirt is. The signed photo is not included in this lot, it is just for reference.
Also included is a signed press pass from the event.
