1966 Mickey Mantle Game-Used Bat Graded PSA GU 9

The legend of Mickey Mantle just keeps growing. Today's generation has been raised hearing of the mythical feats accomplished by the Big Apple's favorite son. Really, how could fans not be infatuated with The Mick? He had that boyish grin, powerful stroke and winning attitude - all virtues tugging at the hearts of New Yorkers. While New York has been home to the likes of Ruth, Gehrig and DiMaggio, something about Mantle still has a certain aura around Yankee Stadium. Modern admirers feel like they actually knew Mantle. At signings and public events, he was the most approachable legend. No matter how many times he heard people say he was their favorite ballplayer of all-time, Mantle still made time for his adoring fans.

The Mick swung a pretty big stick during his 18-year career - all in Yankee pinstripes. This Hillerich & Bradsby model W215 Louisville Slugger bat was used by Mantle in 1966. Manufacturing records indicate he ordered this particular model on May 6, 1966. Moderate use is shown on the uncracked lumber (35" and 32.3 ounces) with some checking (grain swelling) on the back barrel from repeated ball contact. A number of ball marks are visible on the right, left and back barrel according to authenticator, John Taube. Taube, of PSA/DNA bats gave this exceptional stick a final grade of GU 9. The model number "W215" has been stamped into the knob. The bat can be originally sourced to Mel Stottlemyre, long-time Yankee pitcher and coach. The letter states: "My family is originally from Mabton, Washington, which is the same town Mel Stottlemyre's family is from. My older brothers went to school with Mel's brother Jeff and later when we all ended up 30 miles down the road in Yakima, WA I played ball against Mel's son Todd. Mel used to do social events for my Dad following baseball season and following the 1966 season gave my Dad a Mickey Mantle game used bat from the 1966 season."
