1973 N. L. Champion New York Mets Team-Signed Feeney Ball (32 Sigs w/Mays, Seaver, Berra, McGraw)

The 1973 edition of the New York Mets dropped the Big Red Machine in the NLCS before bowing to Oakland in the World Series - but it took the Athletics seven games to settle the contest. The Mets, including an aging Willie Mays, were just that close to adding another World Series title to their young franchise. It was in the course of that pennant-winning 1973 season when 31 of those Mets converged to pen their identities to this ONL (Feeney) baseball. The signatures are a bit light, averaging about "6" in quality; all of them are clean, but we report that two of them defy identity, due only to penmanship. The ball may have been autographed during the World Series that year - most certainly no earlier than the last week of the season (one of the signers, Bob Miller, arrived on the Mets roster on September 23rd). Furthermore, the inclusion of Willie Mays (on the sweet spot, no less) assures that this signing took place very late in '73.

In detail, we note the signatures of Bob Apodaca, Yogi Berra (sweet spot), Ken Boswell, Duffy Dyer, Wayne Garrett (signed twice), Jerry Grote, Don Hahn, Ken Harrelson, Ron Hodges, Jerry Koosman, Ed Kranepool, Teddy Martinez, Jon Matlack, Willie Mays (sweet spot), Tug McGraw, Roy McMillan, Felix Millan, Bob Miller, John Milner, Harry Parker, Joe Pignatano, Dave Schneck, Tom Seaver, Rusty Staub, George Stone, Craig Swan, George Theodore, Rube Walker and Eddie Yost .
