WWII Turning Point...Nazi Major Remer...The Man Who Saved Hitler

On the 20th of July 1944, a group of patriotic German officers led by Count Claus Von Stauffenberg exploded a bomb at Hitler's headquarters in an attempt to kill the mad Fuhrer.  The plot was in motion throughout Nazi occupied Europe.  They had but one problem, Hitler was still alive.  The leading Nazi officials were being arrested through out Germany, including the wily propaganda minister Josef Goebbels.  Major Otto Remer, in charge of the regiment responsible for security in Berlin, was sent to do the job.  He faced Geobbels at gunpoint until Dr G persuaded him that Hitler was still alive, and got him on the phone.  Remer clicked his heels to the voice..and Hitler promoted him two ranks and said to deal 'mercilessly' with traitors.  Remer, and unregenerate Nazi, switched sides and was sent to the War Ministry where he and his troops arrested the plotters and the attempt to kill Hitler collapsed.  Remer, a founder after the war of a pro-Nazi party, was wanted in his native land and died in exile.  Fortunately the book is in German, as it was an apologia for the war, Hitler, the Nazi's etc.  At the very end of WWII, Remer was promoted to General, where he made a mess of things and caused countless casualties to his troops.  An evil man, but one of the very pivotal figures, nearly unknown, of the Second World War.  Obtained from a German shop that specializes in military history.  MB150
