1951 Boston Red Sox Ted Williams All-Star Game-Worn Rawlings Baseball Spikes Cleats Shoes
Presented is a pair of cleats that were worn in the 1951 Major League Baseball All-Star Game by Ted Williams. The 18 Mid-Season Classic was held at Briggs Stadium in Detroit on July 10th. Notably, Williams had a broken elbow the previous year at the Mid-Season Classic. In this game, the left fielder had a triple, walk and strikeout. The NL ran away with the victory as they won 8-3 over the AL.
The Rawlings Fleet-Foot cleats are well worn and show that he dug deep into the clay on the plate and field as there are still dirt remenants coming off the shoes. There is a "9" faded in marker on each tongue.
These originated from an auction Lelands held in 2001 in which they sold for $18,000+. Relayed from the provenance in their description, these were acquired from a batboy who worked the game. The cleats include the original auction tag with lot number #890 for reference.
